2011-8-3: Help Yimin Yu and his Family!

2011-8-3 : Donate to Yimin Yu and his Family.

In 1978 and at the age of 16, Dr. Yimin Yu entered Peking University to study cell biology. Upon graduation, he was admitted to the Institute of Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to further his studies. After receiving a Master Degree, he came to the U.S. to attend Emory University in Atlanta, where he received a Ph.D. in life sciences. From 2005 to 2009, he was an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, researching on Toll-like receptor-mediated innate immune mechanisms. In 2010, he accepted a faculty position at the Wenzhou College of Medicine to become one of its leading scientists in modern biotechnology.

While dedicating himself to teaching and researching, in June, 2011 he was diagnosed with a late stage of liver cancer at the University of Pennsylvania. Overnight, a vibrant and life-loving Dr. Yimin Yu was thrown to the edge of death. Today, with his cancer cells spreading, he struggles with unrelenting pain day and night, fighting for his life.

A man of optimism and sincerity, Dr. Yimin Yu has always been truthful, friendly and ready to lend a helping hand to others. Despite living on a limited income, he has never hesitated to donate generously when disasters such as the Wenchuan earthquake occurred. Even in his forties, his smiles and laughter are still as pure and touching as that of a boy's, and his embraces always convey strength and warmth. It is hard to believe that a man like him, a constant source of joy for his friends and a dedicated disease fighter for mankind, is now fighting fiercely for his own life.

Now lying in his Philadelphia’s hospice bed, without employment income and health insurance in the U.S., Dr. Yu only finds a challenging financial situation with his urgent needs for medical treatment, and with two young children. Donations from his friends and other generous people are urgently needed to help Dr. Yimin Yu and family live through this hard time. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Update: Yimin passed away on 8,19,2011 . 7:40AM EDT .

2011-1-7 : Donate to Ling and her Family.

Ling Murray remains in critical condition

By The Community Voice December 6, 2010 01:45 pm

UPDATE: Wednesday's surgery went well for Ling. However, doctors have discovered more damage during surgery and it is estimated Ling will remain in the hospital for up to four months with additional surgery slated in about 30 days. Thursday doctors started to bring her out of the medically induced coma, removed her breathing tube and reduced the amount of medications. Family and friends have set up two bank accounts for donations to help the Murray family cover medical costs.

The mother of the 2-year-old girl who was struck and killed by a car on Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park on Dec. 1, opened her eyes Sunday for the first time since the accident and remains in critical condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The accident, which took the life of Calli Murray, occurred near the intersection of Snyder Lane and Medical Center Drive early Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Ling Murray, Calli’s 40-year-old mother, suffered multiple broken bones and other major injuries that will require several surgeries. Ling Murray had the first of her surgeries, on her left arm, Saturday.

On Monday, she had surgeries on her left knee and leg, and she also had pins placed in her pelvic area.

The driver of the car was identified as Kaitlyn Dunaway, an 18-year-old freshman volleyball player at Sonoma State University.

According to Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety officials, Dunaway was driving a 1997 Honda on Snyder Lane and failed to stop at the crosswalk. Ling and Calli Murray, according to public safety officials, were crossing Snyder Lane when Dunaway was driving from a southbound lane. The Murrays had been playing at the park when they began to return home and began walking, hand-in-hand, into the crosswalk, public safety officials said.

The group continued to grow, spilling out around a shrine of stuffed animals, flowers and candles placed below a sign for Sunrise Park near the Snyder Lane crosswalk where the crash occurred. Green police paint still lingered where police officers marked evidence from the crash.

A group of people braved rainy conditions Sunday evening to hold a candlelight vigil at the intersection where the collision occurred. Calli Murray would have turned 3 on Christmas Day.

2010-12-3 : Donate to Chunde Dai and his Family.

Please follow the link below to donate to Chunde's family by PAYPAL, GoogleCheckout and Check.

Click to read more detailed stories

During the thanksgiving holiday, Chunde Dai, a talented NYU doctoral student, suffered an accident while he was swimming off Miami Beach. After he was pulled out from the water, rescuers gave him CPR; but he later passed away

Chunde was graduated from Tsinghua University (Department of Automation 2005).

Chunde was not only the leader among his classmates, but also his family's pride and hope as well. During his years in Tsinghua University, Chunde received several top scholarships, and was honored as the "Excellent Graduate of Tsinghua University”.

Enduring great pain, Chunde’s family is coming to the U.S. to settle his affairs. However, Chunde’s family has few financial means and they cannot afford the huge cost of this U.S. trip. Chunde’s family is in poverty: his mother is unemployed; his brother is disable and the whole family relies solely on his father’s meager salary. Chunde was the only hope for his family, but now this hope is lost.

We cannot restore the life of Chunde, but we can give his family a hand and help them through this difficult time!

4-28-2010: Against Violence toward Chinese and Asian!

http://bayarea-chinese.cmain.org

Violence happened continuously in Bayview, San Francisco and Oakland lately. Several American-Chinese were assaulted and some were even beaten to death by juveniles, however, the mainstream media chose to ignore it. Bai Lan, the consultant of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, was quoted as saying that the above-mentioned cases reported by media only represents a very small fraction of the brutalities encountered by the American-Chinese in US. We can’t let this happen anymore! While we grieve for the victims, comfort their friends and families, we are inviting all community members to call on authorities to stop the violence in the communities that we live in. The Chinese Mutual Aid International Network (CMAIN) launched a petition and donation campaign to fight violence toward Chinese and Asians! We hope our voice will be heard and therefore urge the authorities to strengthen the safety of our neighborhood. Pan Wei Xuan, the ethnic Chinese member of the police commission will submit the petition letter to the police committee meeting. Let us all contribute to build a better and safer community!. Please sign the petition By Clicking Here .

Your donation will be used in following area:

1. Media ads on local English media such as SF Chronicle and sfgate.com.
2. We are also considering ads on major highway bulletin boards in the bay area.
If you'd like to make this happen and do your part for the community, please click the DONATE button below.
