COVID-19 Relief fund
As of April 5th evening, more than 10,000 people in the U.S. have died from COVID-19 and more than 340,000 people in the U.S. have been infected. This exponential growth in both infected cases and deaths are straining the supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health care workers across the nation. Some of them are forced to wear bandanas and scarves for masks, trash bags for gowns, and reuse all sorts of medical equipment.
CMAIN, a 501c3 charity NPO, focus on disaster relief, together with a group of Asian Americans and Immigrants volunteer from the Bay Area, gathered to solicit funds from companies and communities, use them to purchase PPE from credible sources worldwide, and donate them to healthcare professionals that are in need.
We believe we need to protect our health care workers as they are confronting the rise in COVID-19 cases and saving lives. The PPE shortage could make it harder to flatten the curve of new cases if our front-line health care workers don’t feel safe or get infected. We have so far donated 20,000 surgical masks to Stanford Hospital, and are in the process of donating another 500 coveralls and 100 faceshields to Bay Area health care workers, as well as 4,000 surgical masks to New York health care workers.
Our current strategy includes the following:
- Fundraise through our networks in both academic and industry;
- Source and validate PPE suppliers, and develop a logistic solution to purchase and ship PPE from China to US via the help of volunteers within the Alibaba B2B business unit;
- Distribute PPE to the hands of the front-line health care workers via partnership with donatePPE.org.
If you are interested in becoming our donor, please donate through our website and specify your donation purpose as for COVID-19 disaster relief.

Donate PPE was formed in March 2020 in emergency response to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers facing COVID-19. It is a project group supported by CMAIN. Team leader Deyu Kong, an engineer from the Bay Area, partnered with Dr. Karen Tsai from Los Angeles to organize a team of over 30 volunteers whose mission is to connect communities with spare protective gear like masks, gloves, gowns, sanitizer, and more to hospitals that need them most.
Donate PPE’s hospital database makes it easy for hospitals and healthcare workers to enter the exact protective equipment they need. Donors can search the database by location to deliver equipment efficiently. In less than two weeks DonatePPE has connected over 100,000 PPE articles with healthcare workers across the United States.
Donate PPE is partnering with corporate donors like Ford Motor Company, Flexport, Citizens of Humanity, and NIO-US to source and distribute supplies of PPE across hard hit areas such as New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and the Bay Area.
