Max Li is a twenty-one years old young man and he got a bone tumor at the age of eighteen. After three year of fierce fighting with the rare and deadly cancer, unfortunately, the situation deteriorated, and his cancer became terminal. He now might have come to the last days of his young life.
Max has been a brave, warm-hearted, and bright young man. He was a senior at Aragon high school when diagnosed. He was a fearless fighter against this fatal disease. He had gone through amputation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments over the past few years. Despite the pain and suffering, he never lost hope. He insisted on finishing the college application on his own and successfully got offers from several top universities. He eventually decided to enroll at UCSD robotics program to pursue his passion while being close to his family. He finished the first half-year of college until Covid hit. He had to move back home to take online classes. It turned out to be the last years when Max could stay so close with his family.
Max is the elder son of Xueying Cao and Xuepeng Li, who are both Peking University alumni, PKU’91 and PKU’90 respectively. Both parents worked in the bay area. Max also has a sister who is in high school. Max has a loving and caring family and they are doing everything possible to fight along with him. Brokenhearted and devastated by Max’s situation, the family did not give up. His parents knew from the very beginning that the survival rate of such a disease was extremely low. They tried various trial programs, including trials requiring frequent long commutes from the bay area to LA. However, none of these treatments was able to stop the cancer from spreading all over Max’s body including lungs and bones.
Knowing the development of his cancer, Max is preparing for his farewell to this world. Max wishes to go visit his birthplace in Ohio where he grew up and had so many happy memories. To have a scoop of ice cream at his favorite shop and tour one more time at the Children’s museum, all remind him of the world he lived and loved so dearly. It is apparently risky for him to take such a long-distance trip, but we want to help him achieve his last wish.
CMAIN and college classmates of Xueying and Xuepeng would like to start a fund to help Max fulfill his last wish. Our donation will be used towards the upcoming trip as well as following related expenses.
